There have been three different versions of the Legion of Superheroes in DC continuity throughout the years. There was the original Legion of Superheroes, of course. Then there was the Legion by Abnett/Lanning/Coipel afew years ago. Now there’s the Legion of Superheroes created by Waid/Kitson. So how is this confusing mess cleaned up (although all three versions have been good)? In August, Geoff Johns and George Perez are creating a five-issue mini-series called Final Crisis: Legion of 3 Worlds.
And it features the Time Trapper, Lex Luthor and Superboy-Prime. Does this spell the end of the current series by Shooter/Manapul? I would guess so. Maybe the original version will take the spotlight again.
Any Legion book is fine with me. But I’d love to see the first team back. The perfect solution for me would be to continue where the original series (actually, there was a second Legion book in the 80’s which took the place of the first book) left off. Instead of the “five years later” story where the Legion universe has gone to hell, so to speak, the new series could continue where the last issue ended. The Legion could actually save the day this time in a huge battle and the new series could begin. New readers wouldn’t have to be confused if written well (as we all know Johns can do). And old readers could get their team back without another revamp.
But that’s just my opinion.
Regardless, I can’t wait to see Perez draw some of my favorite characters and to see how it all plays out.
