The usual ebb and flow of PastePotPete has been ebbing more than flowing for the past few weeks. Credit that to all of us getting back into the normal routine of the year. Add to that the fact that I’m adapting to blogging via a Mac, and trying to find blogging software that works as well as Windows Live Writer. Say what you will about Microsoft, but they have at least two products that truly shine – the aforementioned Windows Live Writer and the Xbox 360 (this second one, I’m certain, is a point of major contention among you fanboys out there, but it IS a solid gaming platform and an example of what Microsoft can get right when they control the hardware completely). WLW is simply a great piece of software and probably the best example of why WYSIWYG is the only way to go when blogging.
So, I’ve been trying to find something equivalent for the Mac, and thus far the best option seems to be MacJournal from Mariner Software. I’m currently writing this using their demo software, but if all goes well I’ll probably end up purchasing it (one of the downsides of using Mac software – not nearly as many free alternatives). If you have other suggestions, please feel free to comment and let me know about them.
Oh, and for those interested, I’ve joined the growing numbers of netbook owners. My new computer is an MSI Wind netbook running OSX. Yep. I has a Hackintosh!

“I enjoy Mark Hamill’s Joker, but I’m most excited to know that Kevin Conroy is returning to voice the Dark Knight Detective. Nobody does it better!”

We’re trying something experimental here at the ol’ Pete. Google has recently introduced their FriendConnect software, so it seemed worth it to try it out on the site. The appealing thing about FriendConnect is that it doesn’t require you to register a new user name or identity with yet another online site. Instead, you can sign in using your existing Google, OpenID, or other online account. So sign in and give it a shot. We’ll be experimenting with some of Google’s gadgets over the coming days. Just tell us what you like and what you don’t – or what you’d like to see us add.
It’s a question I’ve been asking myself: what’s happened to the always (ok, maybe sometimes….or occasionally) reliable bloggers on the Pete? I offer no excuses for myself, and I have no idea where PeatMuppet’s posts have gone. As for FreakEngine, he’s got a big-time project in the works. Look here for promos and links coming soon….like really soon.
In the meantime, here’s to a post-happy couple of months as we wind into the holidays and wind out of the year!
Children’s book author Adam Rex created this, and in spite of myself I can’t stop myself from watching it… kinda like a gamma bomb explosion.
Now that Comic Con has come and gone, much is being said about how it has lost much of its focus, and, let’s face it, its appeal. But the best articulation of this sentiment has to be a lengthy article from Publisher’s Weekly’s The Beat blog. I know I sound like a dyed-in-the-wool geek, but I think an era has passed in the con and comic book world, and I doubt it will ever return.

Far be it for me to praise ANYTHING MTV does this days; however, they have managed to cobble together a fairly interesting blog at Splashpage. The idea is to post stories related to the development of comic book films. Seems decent enough at the moment. Check it out when you get a chance.
**Oh – and note that none of their RSS feeds seem to be working yet. Hopefully this will be rectified within a day or two.
